Will Jacks broke 81 balls on just 45 balls for Oval Invincibles on Sunday

Will Jacks smashed 81 runs while Sunil Narine shone with three wickets as Oval Invincibles bounced back from their first loss by crushing Welsh Fire by 39 runs at Sophia Gardens.

History of the game

All eyes were on Jason Roy at the top of the visitors’ sleeves as he looked to regain his form – only for the England fly-half to be cheaply sent off again by switching to the fine leg for 10. Jacks, however. , has more than made its mark.

Jacks, who will have a chance to shine for the England Lions against South Africa, started his innings slow before throwing a powerful late game, breaking seven fours and four sixes in his 81 carries with just 45 balls.

Jacks, who was backed up by Sam Curran (26) and captain Sam Billings (14), helped the Invincibles to a competitive 158-5, a tally that seemed impossible after early losses to Roy and Rilee Roussow (5).

Ryan Higgins (2-31) and Adam Zampa (1-25) were the choice of the Welsh fire bowlers.

The Fire got off to a much better start through Joe Clarke (37) and Tom Banton (13) but the Invincibles fought back with a few key wickets, three of which came from foreign star Narine (3-21)

Narine tricked Banton to trap him lbw, while he beat England batter Ollie Pope for a four-ball duck and captain Josh Cobb for 11.

Bowling from Tom Curran (2-14) also helped stem the tide, and in the end Welsh Fire limped to just 119-6, with Ben Duckett (25) the only other hitter to show promise.

The loss leaves Welsh Fire without a win this year, while the Invincibles are 1-1 after their narrow opening loss to London Spirit.
