And while the Invincibles have a fair share of international talent – including Billings, Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, the Curran brothers and Saqib Mahmood – there are others waiting to announce themselves to the world.

One of them is the all-rounder from Surrey Jacks, who has yet to be selected by England despite his recent call-up to the one-day squad.

“I would really love to be the guy to make a splash, but there’s an international quality to our side, and we’ve got quite a few in this dressing room who are going to want to be that lead man,” Billings said.

“Will Jacks has been in the shape of his life and this could be the launching pad for him. I will be really excited to see what he can do to catapult himself to another level.

“That’s what we’ll see throughout this tournament, some of these young players will be playing with and against the best in the world. You can go make a name for yourself, how good is that?

“For the guys who haven’t had that exposure across the world in these competitions, it’s going to be awesome. Everyone will learn so much. I’ve benefited tremendously from being in these environments over the last few years. Then, there’s someone like Jordan Cox, an exciting talent that I’ve spent a lot of time with in Kent, he could really benefit from that experience. “

Billings is known as an innovative and instinctive hitter, possessing one of the broadest hitting repertoires on the circuit. But even he believes that with 20 balls less per set than a Twenty20 match, the sport is ready to start again.

“You can never reach the limits. It will always continue to improve and there will always be ways to move the game forward,” he said.

“We even saw some of the older guys start to reverse the paddle. It started off as a normal paddle and now right-handed people are hitting left-handed strokes as a normal option. With things like that, it’s going to keep moving to move on. forward … we have to. We will continue to push the boundaries in this new format. “

Phil Salt will be on the opposite side of Billings and can’t wait for the honor of facing the first ball of the men’s tournament, even if that ends up making him a trivia topic in the future.

As he showed in his first streak as an England player against Pakistan, he is more than willing to strike hard from the first moment despite the inherent risks.

“At least if I go out first, I’ll be the answer to a brilliant commercial question 10 years from now,” he said.

“But I would love if it was me to go out there and get a big score in the first game and win it for my team. It’s great to play the first game, a really exciting thing to be a part of because the eyes of the world are gonna be on it.

“Scoring a hundred in The Hundred? That’s the dream ticket. It would be awesome but I’m sure it’s been done several times in the first hundred bullets of a T20. If you go down to an aviator and find a few matches -ups you like, it’s possible. I just wish it was me or one of the guys on our side. “

Watch Invincibles take on Originals on Day 2 of The Hundred – live on Sky Sports and the Sky Cricket YouTube channel from 6 p.m. ET.
