Danni Wyatt banged a gorgeous 69 for Southern Brave

Danni Wyatt hit a stunning undefeated 69 on 40 deliveries as Southern Brave chased 141 to beat Birmingham Phoenix and climb to the top of The Hundred table.

HISTORY OF THE MATCH

Wyatt hit five limits and four sixes in his dazzling shot, the last of which was thrown over the deep square-leg limit to claim the victory with 18 whole balls to spare.

Wyatt was superbly supported in the pursuit by England teammate Sophia Dunkley (41 out of 23 balls) and West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor (22 out of 14). The Braves have now won their three opening games.

The Phoenix had looked set for an upset as they posted an impressive 140-4 score after being batted, with captain Amy Jones continuing her fine form for the tournament with 42 paces on 26 balls.

In response, Dunkley was initially the aggressor after the Brave lost Indian opener Smriti Mandhana (5) cheaply. Wyatt had just 18 points under her belt when Dunkley fell to 41 in the most unfortunate circumstances as she ran out of an Abtaha Maqsood deflection as she retreated from her crease at the non-attacking end.

But, in response to the backhand, Wyatt shifted the gears, loosening the ropes four times as she pulled the Brave to victory.

HEROES OF THE MATCH

Wyatt was almost an almost unanimous choice, given his efforts to win the match, although Dunkley, Taylor, Jones were also impressive with a bat in their hands.

Additionally, during Phoenix innings, Amanda-Jade Wellington stood out with the ball, with the legpinner claiming two wickets – key hitters Shafali Verma (22) and Eve Jones (33) – for the cost of just 16 points on its 20 balls.

MASSIVE MOMENT

Dunkley’s bizarre run had initially seemed decisive. Not with Wyatt around.

And she ultimately stole the show, not only with her awesome innings, but with the way she finished the game in sensational style – with six runs needed, but still 19 deliveries to get them with, she’s seen it right with. a gentle swing off the bat for six. Box office!
