The GOP is so filled with ‘fear and rage’ – they don’t want anyone to feel safe

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid said on her show “The ReidOut” on Monday that Republicans are so filled with “rage and fear” that they don’t want an American who disagrees with them feel safe anywhere in the country.

Reid said: “The concept of safe spaces which the Merriam Webster Dictionary describes as a place intended to be free from bias, conflict, criticism or potentially threatening actions, ideas or conversations. Like safe spaces for survivors of sexual assault, transgender, etc., but for the idea about the good idea, it’s something more threatening. Spaces online and in real life where conservatives feel closed off for voicing unpopular views and where political correctness and awakening compel them to step on pins and shut up or just shut up for fear of be cancelled. To say the least, they don’t like safe spaces, OK, they really, really hate them.

She continued: “What has happened on the right and specifically within the Republican Party over the past two decades is that their sense of victimhood and frankly fear and rage at a country increasingly more diverse where they’re not automatically at the center of everything, where other communities have had a chance to focus on, like Hollywood and books and in culture and have elected political leaders who look like them, President Obama , Kamala Harris and the guy who recruited on the wrong list to be associated with the two of them, Joe Biden. Their anger has frankly corroded into something more like hatred, to the point where they, even as a minority. Only about 30% of Americans are Republicans, openly display the idea that because they are not happy and do not feel affirmed by a modern, multicultural and, yes, more secular, more socially liberal America, it should not no safe spaces. If they had anything to do with it, there would be no place in this country where any of us should feel safe. This is our punishment. We have a political party that sells demographic panic, rage, and alienation, a really dangerous combination that basically says Democrats should be afraid.

She added, “I mean, they say immigrants should be scared and, in quotes, socialists should be scared, and since all Democrats are supposed to be socialists, well. Too many immigrants are coming here. Build a wall to keep them out. Separate them from their children. Women are having abortions and are not contributing to the growth of the nation’s infant population. We’re just going to pass laws to make them give birth. Rape, incest, who cares. You will, and anyone who helps you should fear being sued. They teach history. It drives me crazy. Ban books, make teachers too scared to teach what I don’t like.

Reid continued, “We are not allowed to feel physically safe anywhere in America thanks to Republicans’ ironclad partnership with the blood-soaked NRA, which has long since left the gun and security industry. has been working for decades to make sure the deadliest weapons get into as many insane incel hands of 18 and 19 year olds as possible so we can’t feel safe at Walmart, the supermarket, Bible study or at the religious service, at the living room, at the hospital.

She concluded: “Republicans want you to get used to feeling like this, in danger, all the time.”
