According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, the chances of Moeen Ali playing in the season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders are very less as he is yet to get an Indian visa. Moeen Ali was retained by the franchise ahead of the auction and will play a vital role for the team with his versatile skills.
The IPL 2022 is scheduled to start from March 26th and the opening match of the tournament will see a clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). CSK had retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK has now suffered a heavy blow to their campaign.
According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, versatile CSK Moeen Ali has yet to receive his India visa and he might miss the season opener.
“It is learned that Moeen is expected to arrive in Mumbai by Wednesday for a chance to play his team’s opener against 2021 runners-up Knight Riders,” said a report in ‘ESPNcricinfo’.
“Given that Moeen would have to undergo the mandatory three-day quarantine to enter the IPL’s bio-secure environment, Super Kings management have accepted that the chances of him playing the opener appear low,” adds the report.
Moeen scored 357 runs in 15 innings and six wickets in 15 games with his counter-round last year. The report also said Devon Conway could play the game if the English all-rounder misses out. He also added that the team will miss his counter trick as he can be useful against lefties: Venkatesh IyerNitish Rana, and Sunil Nostril.
“The Super Kings will likely feel the pinch in their opener as Moeen’s rotation would have been useful against the Knight Riders’ left-handed trio: Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine,” it read.
