Maybe that cameraman should have watched where he was going.
A cameraman inadvertently strayed onto the track during the men’s 3,000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships on Monday. He stood in the middle of lane 2 with his back to the rapidly approaching runners.
Faced with a new obstacle, the riders were forced to squeeze around the cameraman, who narrowly avoided a collision.
The cameraman was not filming the steeplechase; instead, he was shooting the women’s triple jump final nearby and therefore unaware of the event unfolding around him.
“I was a little worried that he would somehow go off just at the last second,” American rider Evan Jager told reporters after finishing sixth. “But luckily he didn’t realize we were there until we all passed him.”
Fortunately for the cameraman, this lack of awareness saved him from an accident – and even more embarrassment.
