The Best Place for a Hoagie (Sub) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ

People love to make fun of Jersey, don’t they? Make fun of us all you want, but we have one thing you can’t make fun of. If Jersey is known for one thing above all else, I’d like to think it’s the food.
Believe it or not, there’s a lot more going on in New Jersey than the haters want you to believe. The beaches are beautiful, the people are so fun and the food…to die for.
Now, you may have heard of the “hoagie vs. hoagie” debate. sub” that has been happening here in the Garden State for several decades now. Let me summarize why people here call the epic sandwich by both names. Typically, if you reside in Jersey and have strong ties to Philadelphia, you tend to refer to the foot-long deli sandwich as a “hoagie.” There’s a long story about why people in Philadelphia call them that, but that’s for another day. You can read about it here.
If you have no connection to Philadelphia or Pennsylvania, you probably call them “subs.”
Here in the southernmost parts of New Jersey, it’s pretty much even Steven. Many people call them “hoagies,” while many South Jerseyans call them “subs.” That’s because there are a lot of Philadelphia transplants in this part of the state, but also a lot of people with no ties to this part of the state.
Another thing South Jerseyans can’t seem to agree on, besides what these sandwiches should be called, is who makes the best ones. If you check out the various Facebook groups that represent several densely populated South Jersey towns here in Atlantic County, you’ll see that most people cite one of three locations as the best place to go for a fabulous sandwich .
Here’s the real question: who does it best?
If you ask the people of Egg Harbor Township, they will undoubtedly tell you that Pete’s Subs should wear that crown. Someone recently asked where to find the best Italian EHT sub and the answer was overwhelmingly Pete’s. Many people have said that White House Subs is the best in Atlantic County, but it’s a hike from Egg Harbor Township.
