The best moveset for Gumshoos in Pokemon GO

Gumshoos was one of the lucky few to be included in the first Alolan event for Pokemon GO. This Pokemon joins the ranks of Raticate, Patrat, and Sentret as early game options that can’t keep up with other threats.

Gumshoos seems to have the same mediocre stats as the main series (although he has a nice 204 Stamina stat). Despite being incredibly low ranked, there is still a role the Gumshoos can play in the Big League.

What moves should this Alolan Pokémon use?

Although it is a normal type, most of the good moves Gumshoos learns are dark type. This allows him to be a Ghost-type counter since normal types are also resistant to Ghost-type moves.

Biting is the fastest move he can use. While Take Down can be attractive (especially when charging 10 energy per use), it’s also incredibly slow at 1.5 seconds. The bite is incredibly weak (base power 4), but at least it’s fast.

Naturally, this move should be paired with Crunch to take on the menacing ghost-types of the meta. Crunch is a good move as it has decent damage and only costs 45 energy.

Unfortunately, Gumshoos is forced to perform a substandard move in the other slot. He has to choose between Hyper Fang (which will never hit for super effective damage) and Rock Tomb (which takes forever to charge).

While Hyper Fang can be used more often, Gumshoos could benefit from Rock Tomb. The bottom line is that Gumshoos will likely be the weakest member of any team. If it can put a teammate in a better position, it could potentially be a game-winner.

Rock Tomb has a guaranteed debuff on the target’s attack stat when used. So if Gumshoos can charge up enough energy to use it, it might be worth sacrificing it so a Swampert or Trevenant can come in and take down the opponent.
