The Backstreet Boys call Drake their ‘sixth member’ as he joins them on stage

Certified lover Drake hasn’t always been so sweet on the ladies, but the rapper has revealed a Backstreet Boys hit gave him the confidence to once ask for a crush.

The Canadian artist thrilled fans when he joined the 90s idols on stage in Toronto this weekend to join the group as their ‘sixth member’ in a rendition of their 1999 hit single ‘I Want It That Way”.

The beloved song is perhaps one of the most recognizable and well-known boyband ballads of the 90s and a longtime love that defined a generation – and Drake shared a sweet anecdote about how the song gave him a confidence boost to ask a girl out for his Bar Mitzvah.

“[When] I was 13…I was the goofy kid and I was in love with this girl at the time and she wouldn’t care about me,” Drake said onstage, according to E! News.

“At my Bar Mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with walked up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing.”

He continued: “She asked me if I wanted to dance with her and it was the first time I felt recognized. It was the first time I felt like I had a chance to be cool. The song she wanted to dance with me to is one of the greatest songs of all time. And by the way, if she could see me now!”

During the live collaboration, Drake worked his own song “Hold On We’re Going Home” in “I Want It That Way”.

“What’s better than I Want It That Way? I Want It That Way… f/ @champagnepapi,” the band posted on Instagram along with a clip from the performance.

Fans of the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker also speculated about another possible collab after sharing a throwback photo with Taylor Swift on Instagram earlier this year.

The photo, which appears to have been taken at some point in the last decade, has sparked old dating rumors, a lost collaboration, which many also believe is a hidden message regarding Swift’s album . 1989 (Taylor’s version).

“They’re too tender to understand the meaning of hard work,” Drake captioned the post and the latest of five photos showed Swift and Drake together in a seemingly dated photo.

Drake has released his seventh studio album Honestly it doesn’t matter in June, after 2021 Certified lover.
