Chadha had hinted at the new responsibility last Friday. “Gujarat wants a change. I am ready to take all the responsibility the party gives, I will fight hard against the 27 years of BJP mismanagement,” he tweeted. In response to his tweet, the state party leadership tweeted to welcome him to Gujarat.

Ahmedabad: The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday nominated its Rajya Sabha member, Raghav Chadha, as co-leader of the AAP in Gujarat for the state assembly elections scheduled for later this year. The AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal had previously appointed Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak as head of his Gujarat.

Chadha had also assumed responsibility for the party as co-responsible for Punjab affairs, ahead of the Assembly elections in that state held earlier this year. The AAP had won the Punjab polls. He now positions himself as the main rival of the BJP which has ruled Gujarat for 27 years.

“Congratulations and best wishes to Rajya Sabha member and youth leader Raghav Chanda on his appointment as ‘AAP’ Gujarat sah-prabhari (Co-Lead),” AAP Gujarat said in a tweet.

In response to his appointment, Chadha said, “I thank @ArvindKejriwal ji for entrusting me with this great responsibility. I will put my blood, sweat, tears and hard work to meet my party’s expectations. Gujarat wants to change , and Gujarat wants good education and health care. Gujarat wants Kejriwal.” Gujarat official Sandeep Pathak and party leader Isudan Gadhvi also praised Chadha.

During his last visit to Gujarat on August 31 after Gujarat AAP Secretary General Manoj Sorathiya was attacked in Surat, Chadha targeted the BJP and said the state assembly elections would be a fight between the “false model of Gujarat” and the “true model of governance of Kejriwal”. The AAP presents its “Delhi Model” to appeal to voters in Gujarat. Its national organizer and Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has visited Gujarat several times in the recent past to hold meetings and town halls with the public in different towns across the state and offered a number of “guarantees”, including free electricity up to 300 units per month and unemployment benefit of Rs 3,000.
