The 27 put to the test of the Israel-Hamas conflict: differences on the truce and European aid
Published on :

The conflict between Israel and Hamas was one of the main topics of discussion at the European Council. The Europeans have increased their blunders and controversies: Ursula von der Leyen was particularly strongly criticized for her trip to Israel, which she supported without recalling the rules of international law. Since then, the 27 have expressed different positions on the conflict between support for Israel and support for Palestinian civilians, without agreeing on a ceasefire or a humanitarian pause. In this difficult context, Emmanuel Macron tried to make France’s voice heard. He traveled to the Middle East to meet with stakeholders in the region and urge them to avoid an escalation of the conflict.
