This Thursday morning, the president of the TFC, Damien Comolli, held a press conference. He gave a lot of information there, in particular the layoff as a precautionary measure of Michaël Debève or the club’s next investments. He also mentioned the Branco van den Boomen case.
Will Branco van den Boomen stay at TFC next season? This is the question that many observers of the purple club ask themselves. While the Dutch midfielder, like many of his partners (Healey, Spierings, Desler…), is at the end of his contract at the end of the season, Damien Comolli raised the issue this Thursday morning, in a conference of hurry.
The Toulouse president first said that the main interested party is “the best paid player in the squad at the moment” while indicating that there have already been discussions concerning an extension. “I had a discussion in May with his agent, who started with figures, which were two to two and a half times higher than our biggest salary. The salary he was asking for was unattainable,” adds Comolli.
No offers this summer
Following this unsuccessful contract extension, van den Boomen and agent would have “searched all summer” for a new base, in vain. The TFC president indicating that the 27-year-old midfielder had “no offer”. “Branco is an extraordinary person, it didn’t affect him. He only thinks about football,” repeated Damien Comolli.
A few months ago Branco van den Boomen said he would discuss a contract extension with TFC during the World Cup break. The native of Béziers clarified that this discussion had taken place. “He confirmed to me that he was interested in staying, financially and sportingly he finds himself there, even if he wants to see if there is not better elsewhere in Europe”.
Branco van den Boomen already on the market?
Damien Comolli then revealed strange news. “His agent put him on TransferRoom, said the president before specifying. It’s a database on which clubs correspond, and agents can put players there. The agent made his player available, which surprises me enormously knowing that he is still under contract with us”. If he is at the end of this contract at the end of the season, the Dutchman is still from Toulouse until June 31, 2023, even if he can sign a pre-contract with another club from January 1, 2023.
A situation that the TFC would surely like to avoid, which is however not ready to accept the figures previously mentioned. “If his agent is still in the same financial arrangements, that will not be possible, indicates Damien Comolli. On the other hand, if he wants to discuss on bases that we can pay, we will discuss with great pleasure”. The situation is far from resolved…
