A local police chief in Uvalde, Texas, did not respond to a follow-up interview as part of a state investigation into law enforcement’s response to an elementary school massacre that killed 19 and two teachers, an official said on Tuesday.
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Peter Arredondo participated in an initial interview two days ago but has yet to respond to follow-up requests, a Department of Health spokesman said. Texas Public Safety.
DPS spokesman Travis Considine said “the Uvalde and Uvalde CISD departments have cooperated with investigators,” but added that Arredondo did not respond to requests for additional interviews.
Arredondo is believed to be the incident commander who mistakenly believed the shooter to be a barricaded suspect and ordered officers to stay outside during the shooting.
