Texas Congressman Robert Howard died after car crash with 18-wheeler, another MP injured

A Texas sheriff’s deputy was killed Wednesday after crashing with an 18-wheeler truck on a Houston-area highway and another was injured while being escorted to a hospital, authorities said.

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Adam Howard, 27, died shortly after the incident on State Route 249 in a suburb of Houston.

He was first taken to hospital in critical condition before dying, authorities said.

While escorting Howard to the hospital, a second deputy on a motorcycle was injured in a crash as authorities blocked traffic, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

This deputy was not seriously injured, he said.

Footage from the scene showed a commercial truck on the side of the freeway and a shattered sheriff’s patrol vehicle on its left side with the roof ripped off.

All northbound lanes of the highway have been closed while authorities investigate.

The sheriff’s patrol vehicle is seen shattered on its left side with the roof ripped off following the fatal crash.
