Tennis. Lucas Pouille, in Rennes as at home – tennis

Rennes Open, until Sunday, at Liberté

January 24, 2021. Lucas Pouille posts a photo on social networks to announce the birth of his daughter, Rose, born four days earlier. In the photo in question, Lucas Pouille, his partner Clémence and their daughter Rose, therefore. And behind them, the town hall of Rennes.

Curious ? Not really. Because, since October 2020, the Pouille family has been living in Rennes, in an apartment in the city center. “When Clémence fell pregnant and we approached the term, we thought about the best place to settle,” rewinds the former 10th in the world.

Rennes, “the perfect compromise”

Rennes quickly imposed itself. “We lived in the Paris region, in Saint-Cloud,” says Clémence, the wife of Lucas Pouille. I am from Saint-Brieuc and we thought it was good to get closer to my family and our friends ”. “It’s the perfect compromise,” says the 27-year-old. We are 1 hour 25 minutes from Paris by train, there is the airport, it’s perfect for me to travel. We also have a lot of friends who live here and we always felt good when we came. It’s a student, it’s a big city that moves ”.

Rennes, a city where he can train, too. On the courts of Saint-Grégoire, in the suburbs of Rennes. “Our move to Rennes was not linked to that, but the question arose as to whether I was going to have infrastructures and partners to train me. The answer was yes because Arthur Rinderknech and Manuel Guinard train here. I was able to prepare myself here this winter ”.

On the other hand, don’t ask him about his favorite places. The Northerner did not have much time to survey the region. “We arrived during confinement and everything was closed,” explains Clémence. “And since June, I haven’t been home a lot, still in tournament. Restaurants, strolling, enjoying, I’ll have the opportunity to do it this week, ”Lucas hopes.

“Brittany, my second home”

At the Pouille, there is Rennes, therefore. And Brittany, above all. Because if he is from the North, Brittany is, by his own admission, “the second place (after Grande-Synthe, with his parents) where I spent the most time outside the tournament”. It all started eleven years ago. Lucas Pouille is 16 years old and plays his first professional tournament at the Challenger de Saint-Brieuc. Tournament during which he meets Clémence. Since then, these two have not left each other. And Brittany has become for him his “second home”.

Quimper, it was, finally, his recovery tournament, January 26, 2021. Six days after the birth of his daughter and after an almost white 2020 season due to an injury to the right elbow.

Today 128th in the world, Pouille is ambitious in the Bretillian tournament. Winning at Liberté, where he will enter the competition this Wednesday at 4:45 pm against Maxime Janvier, “that would mean a lot, especially in the comeback that I’m doing.”

Rennes, Brittany, where it all begins with the Pouille.
