A Tennessee family claims an Apple AirTag was used to track them while they were at Walt Disney World.
Jennifer Gaston told FOX 35 Orlando the family was heading back to their car on the monorail when they discovered the AirTag, receiving a notification that the owner of an AirTag device was following them. The Gaston family came from Tennessee, according to WKRN-TV.
“We were terrified, confused, hurt and scared,” Jennifer Gaston said. “She literally watched him follow us from the tram to our vehicle.”
Gaston’s daughter said the device tracked them for several hours while they were at the theme park.
The family couldn’t find the AirTag when they got to their car. They left and called the police.
His daughter continued to track the device’s location, and it showed that it was still in the parking lot.
“As she was refreshing it, it showed the AirTag was still in our parking spot, so when we were frantically shaking clothes and throwing everything out of our bags, it fell out,” Gaston said.
Apple AirTags are devices intended to keep track of personal belongings in case of loss, but have been used by criminals in the past.
Gaston said the situation could have ended much worse.
“This story could have ended differently,” Gaston said. “I praise God we got the result we got, but that’s because she was diligent and aware of what needed to be done.”
