Teens detail discovery of body: ‘We went deeper into the cave and found the rest’

PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. (WKRN) – A densely forested area in Cheatam County, Tennessee is a playground for three 13-year-old friends who like to explore.

“We saw a trail, and we thought, ‘You know, it would be pretty cool to go down the trail,'” the teens, who did not want their identities to be revealed, explained.

Their March 6 Sunday afternoon trek began like so many others had in the past until a piece of clothing sparked a hunt that would lead them to the greatest discovery of their lives.

“I only found two shoes at random,” said one of the teenagers. “I put the two shoes together and then one of our other friends saw the femur bone,” the teenager explained.

Instead of running, they pushed further into the woods, leading to their next discovery. “It was just a random cave we found,” he said.

Inside, with only the glow of a cellphone light, another clue. “In the cave we found torn clothes, a get out of prison card and a credit card,” the teenager explained.

That’s when the friends decided it was time to make some calls. The first was with the police. “They said it was the weirdest call we’ve had in a while and told us to take them there,” one of the boys said.

The second call was to their parents.

“My son calls me and says, ‘Hey mum, we found a femur bone in the woods.’ And I said, ‘No, you didn’t. No, you didn’t! And he’s like, ‘Yeah, we really did. We called the cops and they are going to put a videotape on the crime scene,” the mother explained. “They were beside themselves. They were a little shaken up, you know? They may have solved a missing person issue. Hope they helped somehow.

One of the teenagers described returning to the cave with the police. “We went further into the cave and found the rest of the body and – the head and torso were in the cave, just lying against the wall. You couldn’t make out any clothes. It was too dark in the cave.

When the mother was asked if she would allow her son to continue exploring the woods, she said with a laugh, “Yeah, I hope it doesn’t happen twice. Law?”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the body was that of an adult male. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the identity of this individual.
