A teenager has been killed in a shootout after an argument near the Atlanta fairgrounds, police say.
Police said the teenager was killed and two others injured near the Atlanta fairgrounds around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to ABC affiliate WSB-TV Atlanta.
Atlanta Police Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said the shooting followed an “escalated argument”, which turned into a fight.
Police told the network that a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old were shot at the corner of Bass and Pryor streets near Central Avenue.
The shooting occurred across from where the event took place at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium.
All three victims were taken to a nearby hospital where the 16-year-old died of his injuries, according to WSB-TV.
The other two teenagers are said to be in stable condition. Police are investigating whether anyone else was involved in the shooting.
Lt. Woolfolk told the network: “I think we’ve gotten off to a good start in this investigation. We’ve recovered ballistic evidence from the scene.
“We have also begun to assess CCTV in reference to the incident, so we will be working through the night to determine everyone involved in this incident.”
Police told WSB-TV that no arrests have been made and they have not released the identities of the victims.
A video shared online appeared to show a large group of people engaged in a fight near the fair and another clip featured police cars parked, apparently nearby.
Newsweek contacted the City of Atlanta Police Department for comment.
According to Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information on shootings across the United States, 33 people in Atlanta have been fatally shot since Jan. 1 this year.
The same database found that across Georgia, some 133 people have died as a result of gun violence this year.
Also in Georgia, a 14-year-old was charged earlier this week in a fatal shooting outside a gas station that left one bystander dead.
The DeKalb County Police Department said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. Thursday when the suspect was “involved in a shootout with a group of men.”
In a statement on Facebook, the police department said, “The victim, a 28-year-old man who was with his family, was not involved in the shooting.”
Police later identified the victim as John Battle who was in a car with his girlfriend and their 16-month-old child when the shooting happened, according to WSB-TV.
