Teenager arrested for terrorism threat at Opelika High School

OPELIKA, Alabama (WRBL) – A teenager was arrested in connection with a threat made against Opelika High School earlier today.

According to a press release from the Opelika Police Department, detectives arrested a 15-year-old on April 7, 2022 and charged him with threatening terrorism.

Earlier today, Opelika High School was detained for several hours after a threatening phone call was made to the school.

The school was closed from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. While police secured the building, all students and staff followed lockdown procedures. After the lockdown was lifted, police remained on campus for the rest of the day to monitor the situation.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The teenager was transported to Lee County Youth Development Center, where he will remain in juvenile detention.
