Tata Sons reshuffles Air India senior management months after takeover

Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran carried out a major management shake-up at the recently acquired airline on Friday, with Nipun Aggarwal appointed Chief Commercial Officer and Suresh Dutt Tripathi Chief Human Resources Officer.

Aggarwal, who is also senior vice president of Tata Sons, replaces Air India veteran Meenakshi Malik, while Tripathi, who was vice president of human resources at Tata Steel from 2012 to 2021, succeeds Amrita Sharan from HAVE.

The order was issued by Chandrasekaran, who is also the chairman of Tata Sons. Malik and Sharan were appointed advisers to the CEO of Air India on Friday, according to a company communication.

As the Tata Group has yet to appoint the CEO of Air India, Malik and Sharan will currently serve as advisors to Chandrasekaran, he said. Satya Ramaswamy, who previously worked at Tata Consultancy Services, was appointed as Air India’s chief digital and technology officer on Friday, the order said.

Rajesh Dogra has been appointed head of customer experience and ground management at Air India, he said. Air India veteran RS Sandhu will continue to serve as Air India’s Chief Operating Officer, he noted.

Another Air India veteran, Vinod Hejmadi, will continue as chief financial officer, he said. “The new appointees will exercise the powers of functional/departmental heads in accordance with the delegation of authority. We wish them all the best in their new role,” Chandrasekaran said in the order.

After a bidding process, the government sold Air India on October 8 to Talace Private Limited – a subsidiary of the holding company of the Tata group – for Rs 18,000 crore.
