REVERE (CBS) – A tank truck overturned and crashed in Revere early Wednesday morning, spilling nearly 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The problems are expected to last throughout the evening’s drive, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The truck was carrying fuel from Revere to Barre when it drove onto the right side into the Brown Circle roundabout at around 3:30 am The tank was punctured and most of the fuel spilled, according to the report. state police. Firefighters put up a foam blanket to prevent the fumes from igniting or exploding.
Both sides of Route 60 were immediately closed, and rooms were opened and closed throughout the day for road clean-up and repairs.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible. Milling and paving is expected to begin around 8 p.m., where the crash damaged the road, MassDOT said.
Revere Fire Chief Chris Bright said some of the diesel leaked into storm sewers and into the Saugus River. The Coast Guard and the Department of Environmental Protection are trying to contain the spill.
State police said the truck had a “defect in its brake system” at the time of the crash.
The driver of the truck, identified only as a 41-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries. Revere Police said he was not facing charges at this stage of the investigation.
