Take me to the ball game! The Phillies are part of a busy sports weekend

On Wednesday, I attended the Phillies-Mets afternoon game at Citizens Bank Park with my daughter. It was a great day for a “Business Person Special” at the start of the season. We had great seats in 4th row left field and had the opportunity to get our Manco & Manco Pizza at the Ballpark. There are lots of things for young kids to do at the Phillies game and it’s hard to entertain a six-year-old for nine innings after eating cotton candy and popsicles, especially when the Phillies lose.

The New York Mets Starting Pitching lead Major League Baseball with a combined 1.29 ERA this season and their dominance on the mound was there Wednesday afternoon. The Phillies trailed throughout the game and they couldn’t solve Mets Ace Max Scherzer. The Phillies finished Game 1 at home 3-3 and lost Game 1 to the Marlins in Miami 4-3 in Game 1 of a four-game series on Thursday night.

The Philadelphia 76ers will face the Toronto Raptors on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. The Sixers and Raptors have met four times this season, with Toronto winning three times. Sixers MVP candidate Joel Embiid missed Game 1 of the series against Toronto due to Covid-19 protocols. The last time these two teams met on April 7 in Toronto, Pascal Siakam had a monster game scoring 37 points, adding 12 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds. This weekend in The Locker Room, we’ll cover it all and get you ready for the weekend in sports!

The Saturday Pin up, former Eagles linebacker Brad Quast joins me in the studio and the Sports book advisor Dave Sharapan checks in from Las Vegas with his take on the odds of the Sixers beating the Raptors. The Phillies are in Miami and we’ll review all the action and get you ready for the weekend in sports.

Sunday, Pete Thompson and I’ll entertain you with the best sports talk in South Jersey. Our weekly segment “On the Mound with Tommy Greene” at 10.30 a.m. presented by GSF Golf Performance Club. Tommy will provide his perspective on the Phillies’ pitching staff and team play at the start of the season. In the second hour, Pete and I will speak with former Flyers captain Dave Poulin. The NHL and New York Islanders lost hockey legend Mike Bossy to cancer, so Dave will talk about Mike’s career and the state of the Flyers. Plus, we’ll get a reaction to Sixers Game One against the Raptors.

All this and more in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon on 97.3 ESPN FM Radio.
