T20 World Cup 2022 | I would try by all means to have Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in game XI, says Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting has given his verdict on whether to include both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Ponting thinks India should play with both Pant and Karthik and drop Ishan Kishan from the roster instead.

There has been a lot of debate about what India’s starting XI looks like at the upcoming T20 World Cup, due later this year in Australia. One of the highest-priority discussions is how their batting unit stacks up, as there have been several who are in impressive form in the shortest format. So, to maintain the right balance, Rohit Sharma and the management of the Indian team has to make some bold decisions.

About the selection debate between Rishab Panting and Dinesh Karthik, Ricky Bridge came up with his thoughts in the latest episode of The ICC Report Wednesday. The former Australian skipper remarked that if he was in charge of the Men in Blue he would play with both wicketkeeper batters and omit Ichan Kishan of the range instead.

To find

“We saw what Rishabh is capable of in cricket over 50 and I absolutely know what he is capable of in the T20 game. Dinesh Karthik had his best IPL ever very recently…and I would try to find every way to have these two guys on my team,” Ponting said in the latest episode of ICC Review.

“Rishabh at bat, in this three-four-five range, and having Dinesh and maybe Hardik Pandya…if you have these guys finishing for you, well, that batting formation looks very, very dangerous. Obviously it means someone like (Ishan) Kishan or Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) or (Shreyas) Iyer, someone like that, might miss and I don’t think Surya will miss him given his current form. But when you have so much talent, picking an Indian team will always be difficult and Pant and Karthik would be the two I would pick ahead of Kishan right now.”

India’s next T20 assignment will be in the West Indies for a five-game series, starting August 1.
