Suspected Colombian drug lord extradited to US

A suspected Colombian drug kingpin was arraigned in federal court in New York on Thursday for overseeing multi-ton shipments of cocaine imported into the United States and ordering the murder and kidnapping of rivals and law enforcement officers.

Federal prosecutors have accused Dairo Antonio Úsuga of being the former leader of the Gulf Clan, calling the organization Colombia’s largest and most powerful cocaine trafficking and paramilitary organization. Mr Úsuga, also known by the pseudonym Otoniel, was captured in Colombia last year after being for years one of the country’s most wanted fugitives. He was extradited to New York on Wednesday.
