Suspect who allegedly punched Korean-American woman in Tustin faces hate crime charge

An 18 year old woman was verbally and physically assaulted by a suspicious man last Sunday morning at his local skate park in Tustin, California.

Jenna Dupuy, of Korean and Puerto Rican descent, was at the Tustin Legacy Skatepark to teach an art class in the morning. She was approached by a man who made suggestive comments before finally assaulting her.

Authorities later identified the attacker as Jauhar Tajuddin Shuaib, 42, according to CBS Los Angeles.

“The man was harassing me hours before the assault,” Dupuy told NextShark. “Comment on my race, and how he finds Asian women beautiful and sexy, how I might be his next girlfriend, then continue to ask more invasive questions such as where I come from and where I live and what is my number.”

Shuaib called Dupuy a “Comie slut” a “North Korean whore” and one “nuclear terrorist ‘ for three hours she shared a Instagram post.

After the art class ended, Dupuy went rollerblading with friends. One of them, who is underage, said that Shuaib also verbally harassed her in the same way.

“I felt the need to protect her because NOBODY should ever be subjected to this type of inappropriate behavior”, Said Dupuy.

After defending his friend, Shuaib hit Dupuy in the stomach. He continued to attack her and ripped his shirt off, even after she sprayed him with pepper.

Shuaib fled the scene before the authorities arrived. He was located and taken into custody shortly after, KTLA 5 reported.

He was charged with hate crime, assault, sexual assault, assault in a public park, loitering and disturbing the peace.

According to Dupuy, passers-by did not intervene until she was injured. A stranger gave him a shirt to cover himself with.

Although others ultimately helped Dupuy in the wake of the assault, the incident should never have happened, she wrote.

This incident was motivated by hatred against my race and my gender ”. she said. “When you make jokes about the history of my country, when white supremacists feel authorized to meddle in the politics of MY country after dividing it in half, leveling it with bombs, and enslaving and fetishizing his women are the result.

“I shared this on my Instagram less than 24 hours after my attack for a reason: I will not be silent about what happened to me and what was done afterwards to my family and my community. “

Dupuy was treated for concussion, right ankle fracture and left scapula fracture in hospital last Sunday, according to a GoFundMe campaign created for her.

Money raised for the campaign will help pay for Dupuy’s community self-defense and witness intervention training courses, therapy and medical bills.

“The complacency of our communities in the face of anti-Asian violence and the dehumanization / fetishization of the peoples of the Asian diaspora affected by patriarchal violence allowed this attack to occur.” said the page.

Anyone who has also been harassed by Shuaib is urged to contact Tustin Police Detective Eric Haug at (714) 573-3246. Anyone with additional information or videos is also encouraged to contact.
