Suspect in Texas murder case kills himself after police chase in Trussville

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) – A man wanted in connection with a Houston murder died after leading police on a chase and turning the gun on himself in Trussville on Saturday.

Francisco Gonzalez, 22, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading Trussville Police Department officers in a chase that ended at the corner of Boulder Drive and North Chalkville Road, according to Jefferson County Coroner William Yates. .

Trussville Police Department Lt. Clint Reiner said Gonzalez, a native of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was a suspect in the murder of Saymo Pieternelle, who was shot Friday at Cambria Cove Apartments in Houston. On Saturday, Gonzalez’s car tag was reported in Trussville through camera surveillance and police were notified of how he was wanted in Texas.

Reiner said Gonzalez was first spotted at the Shell gas station on North Chalkville Road. Reiner said officers tried to arrest Gonzalez, but he fled in his car, leading police on a quarter-mile chase before shooting himself while driving, hitting a nearby car. from the Boulder Drive intersection. Reiner said police believe Gonzalez was passing through Trussville on the way back to New Jersey.
