Suspect in alleged Trump assassination attempt charged with two gun-related offenses
Former President Trump addressed the apparent assassination attempt that occurred Sunday during an event on the social media platform X on Monday night, saying he heard gunshots from Secret Service agents.
The former president said he and a friend he was golfing with “heard gunshots in the air, probably four or five, and it sounded like bullets. What do I know? But the Secret Service knew right away that it was bullets, and they arrested me.”
“So we were in the group, and everybody got in the carts and we made pretty good progress,” he said.
Trump said an agent “saw the barrel of an AK-47, which is a very powerful weapon, a rifle, and he started shooting the barrel, he started shooting into the bushes. He could only see the barrel.”
Reflecting on the July assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump said, “That was a crazy day, and yesterday was another one with a different outcome, actually a much better outcome,” because no one was killed or injured.
One person was killed and two others injured by the gunman in the attempted attack in July.
Trump also said of President Biden: “He’s been very nice, he’s called me to make sure I’m OK.”
