The Hurricanes racked up 22 points in the second half to edge the Waratahs on the Super Rugby Pacific table, following a win from behind in Sydney.
The Waratahs had a 15-0 lead at the break but were overtaken in the second half, with the Hurricanes winning the game 22-18.
Visitors skipper Ardie Savea crossed for the winning try in the 75th minute, the five-pointer putting the Hurricanes ahead for the first time in the match.

“It feels like it kind of got away from us,” Waratahs skipper Jake Gordon told Stan Sport.
“We controlled possession for a lot of that first half. They came out of the blocks very quickly in the second half and we struggled to control that.
“We are still a long way from the full package, but we are getting there.”

In front of a vocal Leichhardt Oval crowd, the Waratahs raced all the way in the first half as the visitors struggled, particularly with their scrum.
Hurricanes first rowers Xavier Numia and Tyrel Lomax were both hooked before halftime, and their replacements, Tevita Mafileo and former All Black Owen Franks, immediately made an impact on the game.
“You look at the halftime score, 15-0, you always knew the Hurricanes were going to get more ball than they had in the first half,” former Wallaby Tim Horan said on Stan Sports.
“Then the power and the experience, the way they handled that second half, there was no panic.
“I think the Hurricanes won the game in that first half, holding on and not being down 20, 22 points. They were only down 15. In the second half, they knew that they would get more possession, they are a brilliant team and I handled the situation well.”
The Waratahs received a red card from reserve prop Paddy Ryan in the 77th minute for a high shot on Jordie Barrett.
