Richard Marshall wants to see Salford improve quickly after losing to Hull KR

Richard Marshall conceded that the Salford Red Devils need to improve quickly if they are to avoid a season of wrestling in the Betfred Super League.

Marshall’s side were beaten 40-4 at the Hull Kingston Rovers on Friday, making it their fifth league win of the season with a dominating seven-down performance at Hull College Craven Park.

The Rovers scored tries thanks to George Lawler, Ben Crooks, Brad Takairangi, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Matt Parcell, Ryan Hall and Kane Linnett.

The Rovers roar before the Red Devils

The Hull Kingston Rovers had seven tries as they claimed their fifth Super League win by beating Salford 40-4.

Jordan Abdull had four conversions and a penalty, but was unable to score the final points after being struck in the shoulder by Pauli Pauli during Linnett’s scorecard with Rowan Milnes stepping in for the kicks.

The Australian received a back-to-back red card after the siren and there were also yellows for Chris Atkin of Salford and Adam Quinlan of Rovers.

Ken Sio scored the first try of the game for the visitors, but it was all downhill from Salford from there.

“Some people in the group need to be a lot better, that’s nowhere near where we want to be as Salford,” Marshall said. “There are just simple things that we need to do a lot better, borderline things, discipline.

“We had a man put in the trash. Our discipline is terrible right now. It just characterizes the way we play when we get a man kicked out.

“They looked better with the ball in hand and had a good kicking game. In the second half we surrendered. It’s the story of our season and it’s something we have to change. and that we need to change quickly. “

After Sio’s early try, Salford could have been on track for just a second win of the season and Marshall was happy with the way they opened before they disappeared.

“We stuck to the plan and kicked the corner for the first 10-12 minutes,” Marshall said. “We had a lot of momentum and looked like we were playing. I didn’t think we were clinical when they had 12 players.”

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith was impressed with how his players defended as a team.

“I’m really proud of the way the players handled the whole game, but our defense in particular,” said Smith. “We conceded a try on a kick and that was the only way for them to score, I thought.

“I think we’re good enough to score points anyway. Their structure was really good defensively and we had to exhaust them.

“We talked about how we were going to break up these people. We were going to have to go through them at some point and that’s what we ultimately did.”
