Stocks gain after major companies beat Wall Street expectations


Makers of everything from Post-it notes to jet engines to enterprise software informed Tuesday on Wall Street of their prospects for 2023. The markets were cautiously optimistic.

All three major stock indexes opened in the green and haven’t looked back. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.6%, or 205 points. The S&P 500 climbed 0.7% while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.9%.
