Steve Bruce insists he will never leave Newcastle in response to talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan telling him to stop.
The Magpies manager is under intense pressure after a terrible start to the Premier League season.
Newcastle are winless in their first four games, with just one draw and three losses, after an uninspiring summer transfer window.
Bruce has been unpopular at St James’ Park since his appointment in 2019, even amid more positive results last season.
Tensions have now reached a boiling point, with fans returning to voice their fury and regular clashes with local reporters.
And speaking on talkSPORT earlier this week, former Crystal Palace boss Jordan, Bruce’s former employer, urged him to leave.
“A lot of Newcastle supporters don’t like Steve Bruce – they don’t assess his record,” Jordan said on Tuesday.
“I happen to evaluate Steve Bruce, I think he’s a good football manager.
“I think he should leave Newcastle, I don’t think he can ever change that, I don’t think he is ever going to fix that.
“I think he should stop?” Oh, absolutely, and I told him so unequivocally.
He continued, “The time to quit was when he did his job last season.”
But Bruce, a Toon fan since childhood, has no intention of taking that advice.
Asked about Jordan’s comments, the Magpies boss gave a provocative response.
Bruce said: “I understand where Simon is coming from, but I never really thought about it at the time.
“I never thought that because it’s difficult here, I’m going to go away.”
He added: “I think with the experience I have I can try to help the club. A lot of people will find this laughable – I understand.
“But that’s what I sincerely believe. I hope that my experience can lead us to success.
