Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson admitted to ‘throwing up projectiles’ in front of a crowd of UFC fighters and dignitaries after the UFC 264 weigh-ins.
The welterweight contender was beaten in the T-Mobile Arena by Gilbert Burns, dealing a serious blow to his championship hopes.
It capped off what seemed like a rather miserable weekend for the karate practitioner, who endured a rather embarrassing moment after stepping off the scales on Friday.
In order to replenish his fluids after hitting the 171-pound untitled welterweight limit, the 38-year-old “got drunk” on a protein shake.
He said on his YouTube channel: “We have food and I have five shakes that I have to drink, along with water.
“Now I’m pretty much exhausted at this point, and these shakes have a ton of sodium, sugars, vitamins, minerals, potassium – they have everything you can think of in a shake, so it’s hard on the body if you blow it out, isn’t it?
“I am sitting there with my father with a group of fighters around me and people are coming to try to talk to me, and I have already had my first drink with two bottles of water. And then I started to have – something started to happen to me.
“Dad is running out there and pushing UFC fighters away to try and give me this thing – and he doesn’t have it for me,” Thompson said.
“I projectile vomit all over the place. In front of the entire UFC roster. In front of everyone.
Despite recovering in time from the main co-event, ‘Wonderboy’ was denied a third straight win as the judges all scored the game in favor of Burns (29-28, 29-28, 29- 28).
