State lawmaker says US will bow like USSR while advocating for secession

During debate over an overwhelmingly defeated amendment to the state constitution that would have caused New Hampshire to secede from the Union, a state legislator said the United States would fall apart as the former Soviet Union did so in 1991.

The amendment failed following a 323-13 House vote on Thursday, with the 13 in favor of secession from the United States being all Republicans. Many lawmakers who opposed the amendment said it was shameful for the state to consider such an amendment, according to InDepthNH, a New Hampshire nonprofit news outlet.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
