Starbucks hires new chief strategy officer as more baristas unionize

Starbucks Corp. said it was hiring a new senior manager who specializes in labor relations as more baristas at cafes in the coffee chain this week voted to unionize.

Three New York state cafes voted on Thursday to join Starbucks Workers United, the union formed to help early Buffalo, NY-area locations unionize in late 2021. More votes are expected to be counted Friday for Starbucks locations in Ithaca, NY and Kansas Urban areas and additional counts are scheduled for next week for Starbucks locations in Massachusetts, Oregon and Virginia.
