‘Stale’ West Ham need more signings after Manchester City loss, admits David Moyes

New signing Maxwel Cornet was introduced to fans at the London Stadium at half-time in the 2-0 defeat before Gianluca Scamacca came off the bench to make his debut, but Moyes wants more new faces.

“We need to freshen up a bit, we’re a bit outdated at the moment,” Moyes told Sky Sports.

“But look at our centre-back [£28million signing Nayef Aguerd] gets injured in a pre-season friendly and there’s nothing we can do about it. So we tried to do that.

“Our centre-forward is getting back into shape. The keeper we signed [Alphonse Areola] plays today after Lukasz [Fabianski] hurts itself.

“You can see that we still have a little work to do.”

A brace from Erling Haaland earned City victory in east London and West Ham boss Moyes admitted he was outmatched tactically by Pep Guardiola.

“They were so good, I felt tactically they completely outdid us today,” he added.

“They played differently, both full-backs played in midfield which made it harder for us to manage and they went wide easier. We had worked hard to try to replicate what we did last season to give ourselves a chance, but they were so good today.
