SpotifyIt is His position as an intermediary does not always earn him many fans. But as the music streamer’s latest results show, this position is not as precarious as it seems.

Spotify announced Tuesday morning that it added six million new paying subscribers during the third quarter, well above the four million the company predicted three months ago. It planned to add nine million new paying subscribers in the fourth quarter, surpassing the eight million forecast by analysts. The company also predicted it would finish the year with more than 600 million monthly active users, a mix of paying subscribers and those who listen to the free, ad-supported tier of the service.
