Sporting Lisbon v Man City: Team News

The hosts will be desperate for Pedro Goncalves, who has scored 13 goals and registered nine assists, to overcome a muscle issue.

Joao Palhinha is expected to start as his late red card in the 2-2 draw with Porto will only lead to a suspension for domestic matches.

It also means former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates is also available to play after being sent off at the weekend, while City loanee Pedro Porro could face his parent club.

City will host the quartet of De Bruyne, Cancelo, Rodri and Aymeric Laporte after they were all rested against Norwich.

Kyle Walker will miss the game due to a suspension which could see Oleksandr Zinchenko play with Cancelo moving to the right.

Gabriel Jesus is an injury doubt but Jack Grealish will not travel for the game.

Sporting Lisbon v Man City: What was said?

Rodri claimed Guardiola’s side can use the pain of their defeat in the Champions League final last season to make them stronger this year.

“I think we’re a much better team now because we have the experience,” he said.

“We didn’t have that experience in this kind of situation before, most of the players hadn’t played a semi-final or a final in the competition.

“Now we have reached these milestones and we know the feeling. Football is not always synonymous with quality. We are all human and when we come to these situations the pressure is high and we have to deal with it.

“Now we have the experience, I think we are more complete as a team.”
