Spair ties for third at CAA Championships
SOUTHPORT, North Carolina – UNCW Deborah Spar and Mallory Fobes each had a 1-under 71 card in the second round of the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championships on Saturday at the Reserve Club in St. James.
Charleston (301-291=592) remains steady atop the seven-team field. Delaware’s Christina Carroll posted a 4-under 68 in the second round to lead the 40-man field and propel the Blue Hens into second place heading into Sunday’s final round.
The Seahawks (306-296=602) sit in third place just 10 shots back. Saturday’s total of 296 is the fourth-lowest score in program history at the CAA Championships.
Spair, a redshirt freshman, notched her season-low score with 15 par or better, including four birdies, in the second round.
Fobes, a junior, improved her first-round score by six strokes to enter the third round in fifth place. The product from East Bend, North Carolina had four birdies in the first 36 holes.
Sunday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
