Southampton vs Arsenal: prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results – preview today

A

rsenal need a change of momentum today as they travel to Southampton shortly after Tottenham’s first four rivals host Brighton in the Premier League.

Having lost two games on the spin and injured key players, the pressure is on Mikel Arteta as the Gunners’ bid for that final Champions League spot fails.

As much progress as his young side have made this season, being beaten to fourth place by rivals Spurs – who face Brighton in Saturday’s midday kick-off – would be a hugely disappointing end to what looked like a breakthrough campaign for the Artet Project.

Arsenal’s visit to Southampton – who were beaten 6-0 by Chelsea last time out – comes ahead of a nightmarish run in which they face Thomas Tuchel’s side Manchester United and West Ham, making three points on the south coast extremely important.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game…

Southampton vs Arsenal Team News

It will be fascinating to see how Arteta tackles his left-back problem. In the home loss to Brighton, Granit Xhaka was deployed out of position in place of Nuno Tavares after his poor performance at Crystal Palace.

Arteta has hinted that Xhaka will continue in the role this weekend, while Alexandre Lacazette is expected to be available after missing a few training sessions for private reasons.

Elsewhere, Arsenal will surely be looking to turn things around in midfield too, particularly with double pivot Martin Odegaard and Albert Sambi Lokonga all too often overlooked.

Granted, there are plenty of questions to answer for Arteta, who already has a fairly small squad and will likely be without Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey for the rest of the season. Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to return to full training after this weekend.

For Southampton, Ralph Hasenhuttl will surely bring changes after the miserable home defeat to Chelsea. Indeed, his side have reacted well to similar results in the past and star striker Armando Broja is available again after being ineligible to face his parent club.

Alex McCarthy, Shane Long and Lyanco are all facing late fitness tests.

Southampton vs Arsenal Prediction

Arsenal could catch Southampton at the wrong time. With Saints already staring down the beach ahead of the Chelsea game, the way this result should provoke some sort of reaction from a team that, while capable of losing by such huge margins, boasts of quality of his day.

Draw 1-1.
