Tony Bellew has warned that he will backfire on boxing if things go wrong in the current trend of celebrity and YouTuber fights.
Former WBC cruiserweight champion has been asked to comment on influencers Jake Paul and Logan Paul.
Jake recently beat Ben Askren and is now 3-0 as a professional, while Logan is 0-1 but is expected to meet Floyd Mayweather at a show next month.
Bellew told the BBC: “First and foremost, they don’t hurt boxing at all.
“Let’s just make one thing clear: these guys aren’t fighters.
“If I’m going to play football at Goodison Park tomorrow, does that make me a footballer?” I wish that was the case.
“But the point is, these guys aren’t fighters, these guys aren’t real boxers.
“He’s someone who tries a sport and participates a little in the competition.
“Now I have no problem with that, but they shouldn’t really get attached and call themselves professional boxers of any magnitude or substance.
“Because it’s wrong what they’re doing in sport pretending they’re these fighters.
“I’m okay with you doing a few pounds, it’s okay when they all do a few pounds and everyone is making money.”
“But understand, someone is going to get hurt doing that and then it will come back to boxing.
“So we have to take it seriously, boxing is a professional, dangerous and brutal activity.
“Don’t joke and don’t try to think it’s showbusiness, it’s cameras, lights, fun and games.
“There is nothing funny about being in the ring with another man who wants to take the head of your neck.
“I went there, I did it. Believe me, someone is going to get hurt in one of these fights and that’s when it’s going to rain.
“That’s when boxing will be called a sports joke, ‘It’s a shame, it’s wrong.’ Stop it now.
“Guys are stupid, they put their lives in danger.
“There are companions who wiped the floor with these two clowns, companions.
“It’s disrespectful to the sport to think of these guys as fighters.”
Bellew concluded by predicting what he thinks will happen in Logan’s fight with Floyd: “This guy is going to get his ass back from Floyd Mayweather.
“He’s going to be played with, he’s going to be absolutely schooled.”
