Social Security Administration releases Illinois’ most popular baby and girl names for 2022 – NBC Chicago

Illinois welcomed many more people named Noah in 2022. Almost 700 more, in fact.

According to the Social Security Administration, Noah was the most popular name given to men born in 2022 in Illinois, according to data recently released by the agency, with 696 men given the name at birth. The most popular name given to women born in 2022 in Illinois was Oliva, according to the administration, with 625 women named Olivia.

2022 isn’t the first time Noah or Olivia have topped the lists. Both names have reigned supreme on Illinois rolls since 2013, the data shows. The year before, in 2012, Jacob was the best baby name in Illinois and Sophia was the best baby name in Illinois.

The data, based on Social Security card applications, ranks the 100 most frequently given names for female and male births both statewide and across the country. Earlier this year, names.org released predictions of what Illinois’ hottest baby name lists would look like in 2022, and they weren’t too far off.

However, baby names in Illinois do not overlap as much with the Social Security Administration’s 2022 National Baby Name List. For example, while the name Lucas ranks 8th on the national list, it doesn’t appear on Illinois’ list of most popular boy names until 20th.
