A small plane crashed into the side of the runway while trying to land at Torrance Municipal Airport on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Torrance Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash scene around 11 a.m., a police department spokesperson said. Video footage from the scene showed wreckage from the plane piled up just off the runway, with fire engines and police cruisers parked nearby.
The plane was a single-engine Arion Lightning and had two people on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It was not immediately clear if either of the two people on board survived.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.
