The Federated States of Micronesia accused Moscow of an ‘unambiguously nasty’ attack

The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) announced Friday that it has officially severed diplomatic relations with Moscow, after Russian troops attacked Ukrainian military installations.

“The FSM condemns the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and the unjustified and brutal aggression against its people and territory, which our country unambiguously recognizes as despicable and despises it in the highest degree,” he said. -he adds. the country’s government said in a statement posted on its website.

The move comes after President Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to attack military targets across Ukraine. The operation began in the early hours of Thursday, with Putin saying it was necessary to “demilitarize and denazify” neighbor of Russia.

Although it has cut diplomatic relations with Russia over the current situation, the WSF has left the door open for both parties to renew relations in the future if Moscow “demonstrates concrete commitments to peace, friendship, cooperation and love in our common humanity.”

The Russian government has not yet publicly responded to this decision. While Moscow and the FSM established ties in 1999, Russia has no embassy in the Pacific nation and contacts between the two countries are said to be limited. The FSM consist of some 607 islands, totaling 702 square kilometres, of which only 65 are inhabited, with a population of just under 114,000.

The WSF’s decision to sever diplomatic ties comes after the US, UK, EU and NATO condemned what they called Russia “without provocation” attack on Ukraine. Sanctions have been imposed globally on Moscow in response to its military activity in the country.
