Skip Bayless thinks Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ‘broken up’ as best friends, says there was no sense of closeness between them

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving haven’t had much success with the Brooklyn Nets. Both have won championships in their careers, but chasing one in Brooklyn has been tough.

The Boston Celtics swept the Nets in the first round. Durant wants to be traded and Irving could also change teams.

Before all this drama happened, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were close friends. However, Skip Bayless believes they are no longer “best friends” after Irving’s questionable behavior.

“I believe this whole issue comes down to the fact that KD and Kyrie have effectively parted ways as best friends,” Skip Bayless said. “I had no idea how close the two were before playoff games. Their body language wasn’t their best friend’s body language.”

The NBA analyst explained the reasoning behind this. He thinks Durant supported the Nets’ decision to sideline Irving.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving’s friendship may be over

Kyrie Irving missed more than 50 games last season because he refused to get vaccinated. His absence contributed to the Brooklyn Nets finishing the season as the seventh seed in the East.

While Durant and Irving survived the play-in tournament, the Celtics dashed their title hopes.

Skip Bayless believes the friendship was ruined when the Nets sent Kyrie Irving home because he wasn’t eligible to play in road games.

“Let’s go back to that moment earlier in the season when the whole organization kind of voted en masse to send Kyrie home,” Bayless said. “If you can’t play on the road, stay home. Well, it seems Kevin blessed that because Kevin was miffed, even mad at Kyrie.”

As impressive as Kevin Durant was, he couldn’t take the team any further without Irving’s help. Additionally, Durant himself has missed 27 games due to injury issues.

Durant may have stopped supporting Irving’s decision not to get vaccinated once it started to affect the team’s success.

“It seemed that once he backed down in favor of management and the team, he would no longer support Kyrie’s vaccinate or no-vaccinate stance,” Bayless said. “It seemed to me that Kyrie and KD broke up.”

Durant is one of the most sensitive players in the NBA

Bayless also slammed Kevin Durant, saying how brooding and sensitive he was. Bayless said Durant uses other people to message.

“He is perhaps the most mercurial I have ever observed up close,” Bayless said. “I also called him the thinnest skinned superstar I’ve ever watched.”

The NBA analyst referred to Kevin Durant’s engraver’s Twitter account and the fact that he used his brother to respond to Bayless’s comments.

Although Durant is unpredictable, it will be interesting to see what happens if he is traded to another team.
