Siya Kolisi and Handre Pollard named to South African squad for British and Irish Lions’ first test in Cape Town

South African captain Siya Kolisi will lead his country in Saturday’s first test against the British and Irish Lions after defeating COVID.

The Sharks flanker was one of 14 Springboks who tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing him to self-isolate in Johannesburg for 10 days.

Winger Makazole Mapimpi and mainstay Ox Nche were also selected to start for the world champions in Cape Town this weekend, after undergoing a medical due to their similar position.

Opener Handre Pollard, another of the Springboks who tested positive, will win his 50th selection.
