Six new bodies found hanging in violent Mexico region

MEXICO CITY, Nov 23 (Reuters) – The bodies of six people were found on Tuesday hanging from a bridge and a tree in a region of central Mexico ravaged in recent months by criminal violence and where they were found last week. another nine lifeless bodies in similar conditions, authorities reported.

The Secretary of Public Security of the state of Zacatecas, the place of the crime, said in a statement that in addition to the three victims hanging from the overpass and the other three suspended from a tree, two other people were found dead later in a property located in another community.

A state government source told Reuters that the incessant violence is the product of disputes between two criminal groups fighting for control of drug trafficking in the area.

Last week, nine other bodies were discovered hanging from a bridge in Zacatecas, a red flag for the country’s security forces, which remain unable to contain the intentional killings despite promises by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to solve the problem.

From January to October, 948 people died violently in that state, according to official data, some 342 more than those registered in the same period of 2020.
