Urban violence broke out on the evening of March 5 in the Alagniers district in Rillieux-la-Pape, a town near Lyon where dozens of individuals set cars on fire.
13 vehicles were set on fire and at least six people arrested, the prefecture said.Contacted by AFP, the mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape, Alexandre Vincendet (LR), explained that the situation had degenerated around 7.15pm when “thirty” individuals advanced “in very compact groups, very mobile, setting fire to cars in their path and graveling the buses ”.
Very quickly, firefighters and police, in particular those of the Departmental Intervention Companies (CDI), arrived at the places where the first arrests were made “thanks in particular to video surveillance”, he continued. The councilor assured at the end of the evening that if the situation was “under control”, he was “very angry”. “Some are using what happened yesterday at La Duchère to give free rein to their violence,” he added.
This violence occurs in fact the day after clashes that affected the district of La Duchère, in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, after the accident in this same district of a 13-year-old on a scooter. Pointed out by residents, the police deny being involved in the accident.
Reacting to this new evening of urban violence, the Independent Union of Police Commissioners (SICP) took offense on Twitter: “After Lyon last night, Rillieux-la-Pape is on fire! Always the same scenario: bosses who want to impose the law of the strongest by breaking everything, by burning everything. And always the weakest who clink glasses. “

Since the events of the day before, political reactions have not been long in coming, the most quick to react being generally the members of the National Rally (RN): “Faced with these scum, only one valid answer: the prison box!”, exclaimed the MEP RN Aurelia Beigneux.

The head of the party list for regional Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Andrea Kotarac, for his part denounced: “After the Duchère in Lyon, it is the turn of Rillieux-la-Pape to burn this evening. Chaos is spreading in the Lyon metropolitan area. The scum has no limit! ”
Earlier today on Cnews, the spokesperson for La République en Marche and deputy Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade, for his part, estimated that “some of the violence that we are witnessing in the neighborhoods [étaient] the direct consequence of the determined action of the government against the points of deal ”.
