Sinks of Russian warships; Ukraine says its missile is responsible

Live updates from Russia Ukraine News:

Russia said its lead warship in the Black Sea sank on Thursday after an explosion and fire that Ukraine said was caused by a missile strike, dealing a blow to Moscow as it prepared for new attacks that could determine the outcome of the conflict.

The Moskva, flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, sank while being towed to port in stormy weather, Russian news agencies quoted the Defense Ministry as saying.

Russia said earlier that more than 500 crew members aboard the Soviet-era missile cruiser had been evacuated after munitions on board exploded. Ukraine said it hit the warship with a Ukrainian-made Neptune anti-ship missile. Russia, which did not acknowledge an attack, said the incident was under investigation.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Ukrainians they should be proud to have survived 50 days under the Russian attack when the Russians gave them a maximum of five. In his late-night video speech, Zelenskyy called it the achievement of millions of Ukrainians, of all those who on February 24 made the most important decision of their lives to fight.
