Ella Halikas has gone viral for recreating some of Julia Fox’s most daring looks – but for the SI Swimsuit model, it was a no-brainer.

“I remember she was wearing the hipster look, and I was like, ‘Ooh, the hipster is coming back,'” the 24-year-old laughed to Fox News Digital. “And I remember people who were much plumper were scared of that. I’d come across videos on TikTok of girls saying, ‘There’s no way I’m in on this trend. I don’t have the right body. My first thought was, ‘Why not?’ Obviously we have different body types, but I also like to show off my body. And I thought if I could wear this, someone else could feel it too. We can feel equally confident and beautiful together. I wanted to start this conversation.”

The curve model took to Instagram where she posted side-by-side photos of herself and Fox, 32, wearing similar looks. Some pieces Halikas wore included black and white Calvin Klein underwear when grocery shopping, as well as a cropped white tank top and miniskirt paired with black patent gloves and boots — two recognizable styles of the model.

Halikas said she received overwhelming support after the photos went viral.

“I wanted to show people that you can rock whatever you want, you can feel just as confident and beautiful,” the California native explained. “I wanted other girls to be seen. I wanted other girls to feel good about themselves and encouraged to try and wear something they thought they could never wear. I had such a good reaction from people, and they love it. I mean, it takes time and effort and money to organize all these shoots that are unpaid. But it’s a great feeling to know that this encourages others to show their bodies.”

According to Halikas, she actually went to a grocery store in Beverly Hills to mimic Fox’s supermarket look.

“The secret to owning the Julia Fox look — or any look for that matter — is confidence,” she explained. “It’s not so much about your body type. It’s about how you carry yourself. It’s not about how you look physically. It’s about how you feel mentally. You have to walk with your chest up and feel good. When you see the pictures, you have to feel the confidence, the energy. That’s what makes people say, “She looks good.” If I had walked up At that store all covered up and with your chin down, looking nervous, people would have said, ‘That’s not flattering, get dressed up. What are you doing? You have to own your body and you have to own your appearance. If you can have that mental shift and find that confidence, then you can achieve anything.”

Halikas said the ‘Uncut Gems’ star didn’t contact her personally after the photos went viral, but did see them.

“She was watching my stories [on Instagram]“, Halikas explained. “She liked both of my messages. She has never commented or contacted personally… But it’s not really about impersonating a celebrity or Julia Fox personally. It is rather a question of recreating a style and showing it on another morphology. I would love to start doing different celebrities and other slimmer women like Bella Hadid. “

The star first caused a stir in 2021 when she was photographed by veteran photographer Yu Tsai in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for SI Swimsuit. Halikas, who was inspired by Ashley Graham and Hunter McGrady, said she had always dreamed of appearing in the magazine.

“The shoot felt like a dream,” she recalls. “I even reached out to Ashley Graham. She sent me a voicemail the morning of my shoot. I remember her saying, ‘I’m so proud of you, you should be proud of yourself. You have come so far.’ I just started crying. I stayed up late the night before my shoot watching videos of her modeling on YouTube for inspiration. So I couldn’t believe my model was cheering me on. I I felt empowered. What I love about this brand is that the girls are so uplifting and supportive. You couldn’t find a more supportive sisterhood.”

“I remember when the magazine finally came out, I was looking all over San Francisco where I was for a shoot, going to every Walgreens, CVS, libraries, Barnes & Noble,” Halikas continued. “I couldn’t find it anywhere. After hours of searching I had to go to the airport and catch a flight to Miami. I went to a newsstand and saw it on the wall . I grabbed it immediately. I got a full page in the issue…I was so proud to have made it this far.”

Today, Halikas hopes her body will serve as an inspiration to other women who “deserve to be seen” in the fashion industry.

“It was super important for me to talk about the difference between body positivity and body neutrality,” she explained. “Body positivity is when you accept your body, but don’t really want to change it. Body neutrality means you love your body, but are ok with the change too. I’m more neutral. I like my body and I’m very positive about it, but there are things that I believe can make me stronger. I’m always striving to be the best version of myself…I love working out and for me, it’s so much more than just trying to lose weight. I’m I don’t even think about the weight or the need to lose. I’m like, ‘How can I get more toned? How can I feel healthier? How can I reduce my anxiety? How can I improve my mental health?

The model shared that she relies on constant Pilates and weightlifting to challenge herself, while improving her mental health. She is also an avid soccer player, hot yoga, and occasional jogger.

“The advice I would give to anyone who is intimidated by the gym is that no one is worried about you,” she advised. “They are more themselves. In life, we always think that people are looking at us and judging us, whether it’s when we’re wearing a new outfit or at the gym. Most people, especially these days, are so preoccupied with themselves If you’re intimidated, find a workout buddy or meet a trainer If the weight room seems scary because there’s only a group of guys, jump on a mat You can also go to a room alone and do some cardio. I also went to a Pilates class, and I’m probably the tallest girl there… but somehow it empowers me. I think, ‘Yeah, I’m twice your size, but look what I can do.’ Health and fitness are different in every body. I want to feel strong to be my best self.”

“Most importantly, don’t compare yourself to others, especially when everyone is wearing bikinis right now,” she said. “There’s so much power in just being you. You’re unique. Don’t lose sight of that. It’s easier said than done, but it’s no fun comparing yourself to everyone else. Accept who you are and what you are capable of.”
