Shorthanded Flyers shut down by Rangers

the Leaflets Wednesday’s shorthanded roster looked more like their minor league team than their current NHL roster. It provided another opportunity to see what some young players could do. Facing a playoff team like the Rangersthere wasn’t much to note after the first 10 minutes.

The Rangers opened the scoring at 10:20 of the first and never looked back in a 4-0 decision against the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers came out with good energy and opened up a 7-1 shooting lead in the first six minutes of the game. That margin eventually reached 9-2 in favor of the Flyers before Rangers finally took over.

At 10:20 a.m., Rangers scored the first goal of the game. Kaapo Kakko was left alone in the slot and shot to beat Felix Sandstrom for his sixth goal of the season.

Rangers went 5-for-3 for 1:55 shortly after, but Sandstrom was solid and held Rangers off the board. Within 20 minutes, the shots were 13 to 10 Rangers.

Rangers kept up the pace in second. They added to the lead at 8:22 with Kakko getting his second of the game off the wire from Philippe Chytil.

Less than three minutes later, Artemi Panarin received a hijacked pass from Jacob Trouba to bury his 22nd goal of the season to make it 3-0.

Shots and saves were limited in a quick third period. The only goal came on an empty net shorthanded for Andrew Copp with less than two minutes to play.

Alexander Georgiev made 28 saves in the shutout victory. Sandstrom made 30 saves on 33 shots in the loss.

The Flyers will be back on the ice Saturday night to face the Buffalo Sabers on the road at 7 p.m. in the first home and away game.
